You Can Take the Next Step

Reflection

What has God asked you to do that you've been measuring only against your own abilities?

Key Scripture

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Devotional

Have you ever felt sure God was asking you to do something, then wondered why it felt so difficult? You might expect His direction to come with immediate confidence. Instead, you notice every weakness and imagine every way you could fall short. Before you've even begun, you're arguing with the opportunity because you can't picture yourself handling it well.

Pastor Kelli described that struggle when she began teaching women's ministry. She knew God had called her, but preparing to speak brought tears, nerves, and questions about whether she had anything worth saying. The turning point came when she recognized that if God had called her to do it, He'd also equipped her. She could draw on His strength and the Holy Spirit's help.

Being a new creation in Christ changes the way you approach what He's asked of you. Your old fears and past limitations don't have to make every decision. Christ is in you, and you can depend on His ability as you obey. That doesn't mean every attempt will feel effortless or turn out perfectly. It means you have Someone to draw from beyond your own confidence and experience.

Sometimes the next step begins with a simple decision: I'm going to obey God, even while I'm learning. You don't have to settle every question about how others will respond before you move forward. Bring your willingness to Him. Ask for His wisdom, prepare faithfully, and take the step He's put before you. You can grow in confidence as you learn to rely on Him.

Application

Name one step of obedience you've delayed because you feel inadequate. Ask the Holy Spirit for help, then complete one concrete action toward it today.

Prayer

Father, thank You that I'm a new creation in Christ. Help me draw on Your strength and wisdom for what You've called me to do. Give me courage to obey while I'm still learning. In Jesus' name, amen.
