Trained in the Wilderness
Reflection
What lesson might God be teaching you in a season that feels delayed?
Today’s Scripture
Exodus 3:1
"Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law... and he came to Horeb, the mountain of God."
Devotional
The wilderness can feel like delay, but sometimes it is training.
Moses spent forty years tending sheep in the desert. From the outside, that season may have looked like a detour from purpose. He had once lived in Pharaoh’s palace. Now he was walking familiar desert paths, learning the land, caring for flocks, and living far from the life he may have expected.
But God was not wasting those years.
The very wilderness Moses learned as a shepherd would become the wilderness he later led Israel through. The terrain, the paths, the water places, the endurance, and the patience were all becoming part of his preparation. What looked like obscurity was actually training.
Then, right in the middle of that ordinary wilderness routine, Moses came to the mountain of God. God met him in the place of preparation.
That is encouraging when your season feels long. God can meet you right where you are. He can use the skills you are building, the patience you are developing, and the endurance you are learning. He can turn the place that feels like delay into the place where purpose becomes clearer.
Do not assume the wilderness means you missed God. He may be training you for what you will one day lead.
Application
Ask God what He is developing in you during this season of preparation.
Prayer
Lord, strengthen me in the wilderness and help me trust that You are preparing me for what is ahead.
