When Fear Speaks Again

Reflection

What Scripture can you return to when fear starts shaping your thoughts and words?

Key Scripture

2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV)
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Devotional

Fear doesn't always arrive as a new thought. Sometimes it's the familiar worry that shows up when you're trying to sleep or the same anxious prediction about someone you love. You may have answered it with Scripture yesterday, yet here it is again today. That return can feel discouraging, especially when you've been hoping this would finally be behind you.

In this week's podcast, Pastor Kelli shared how fear affected both her public speaking and her thoughts about her children. She chose to make 2 Timothy 1:7 the truth she identified with: God had given her power, love, and a sound mind. She also explained that the change wasn't overnight. She kept returning to that truth over time until she recognized that fear no longer ruled her life.

There's encouragement in that honesty. You can keep agreeing with God's Word while your thoughts and feelings are still learning a different response. When fear speaks, pause and ask, 'What did God say?' Give His answer room in your mouth and mind. Joshua 1:8 connects keeping God's Word in our mouths with meditating on it day and night and carefully doing what it says.

Put your Scripture somewhere you'll see it. Read it slowly, speak it thoughtfully, and let it shape your response to the moment in front of you. You aren't required to feel confident instantly. You're choosing where to place your trust. Each time you return to His Word, you're practicing agreement with the power, love, and sound mind He's given you.

Application

Write 2 Timothy 1:7 on a note where you'll see it today. When a familiar fear returns, pause, read it aloud, and choose a response consistent with power, love, and a sound mind.

Prayer

Father, thank You for giving me power, love, and a sound mind. Help me return to Your Word when fear speaks again. Teach me to trust You patiently and let Your truth shape my response. In Jesus' name, amen.
