Reflection

Have you begun treating a temporary condition as though it will always be part of your life?

Key Scripture

II Corinthians 4:18 (NKJV)
While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Devotional

When a problem stays longer than we expected, it can begin to feel permanent. We prayed, believed, and stood on God's Word, yet Monday arrived and the same situation was still staring us in the face. Over time, what we see can become more real to us than what God has said.

Paul gives us an important distinction: what we see is temporary, while what we don't see is eternal. Temporary doesn't mean painless or insignificant. It means subject to change. The diagnosis, financial pressure, family conflict, or hurt you're facing may be visible today, but it doesn't have the authority to define your future forever.

God's Word is eternal. It doesn't expire, return empty, or become less true because your circumstances haven't changed yet. Faith keeps bringing eternal truth to the temporary situation each day. It doesn't deny the problem. It refuses to give the problem the final word.

Think of a temporary tattoo. It may look firmly attached for a while, but it was never designed to remain. In the same way, don't build your identity or expectations around what God has called temporary. Keep your eyes and ears on His Word. Let His promises become more established in your heart than the condition in front of you. What you're seeing today is real, but it isn't eternal. This has an expiration date.

Application

Name one situation you've unconsciously labeled permanent. Write beside it, “Temporary and subject to change,” followed by a Scripture promise you're choosing to believe.

Prayer

Father, help me see my circumstances through the truth of Your Word. Keep eternal truth established in my heart, and remind me that what I see today is subject to change. In Jesus' name, amen.
