Reflection

Have you confused people’s approval with God’s favor?

Today’s Scripture

Zechariah 12:10
"And I will pour on the house of David... the Spirit of grace and supplication."

Devotional

Our culture is obsessed with approval. Likes, comments, followers, invitations, recognition, attention, and applause can start to feel like favor. If people notice us, we feel valued. If they overlook us, we feel forgotten.

But God’s favor is completely different from human approval.

Favor is not based on appearance, popularity, connections, achievement, or performance. It is not fragile like public opinion. It is not something people can give you one day and take back the next. God’s favor is rooted in Jesus and poured out by grace.

Zechariah prophesied that God would pour out the Spirit of grace. That word carries the meaning of unmerited favor. This was not a sprinkle. It was a pouring out. God was revealing His intention to bring His people into a life marked by grace, nearness, and help from Him.

That means you do not need to live chasing approval from people. You already have something far stronger. You have the favor of God, and His favor is not moved by the opinions of others.

People may misunderstand you. They may overlook you. They may fail to celebrate what God is doing in your life. But their response does not determine your position.

God’s favor is not applause. It is His presence, His grace, and His covenant goodness resting on your life.

Application

Release the need for approval today and thank God that His favor is enough.

Prayer

Father, free me from chasing people’s approval and help me rest in the favor I have through Jesus.
