Stop Striving for Favor

Stop Striving for Favor

Reflection

Where have you been trying to earn what God has already given you in Christ?

Today’s Scripture

Ephesians 1:6
"To the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved."

Devotional

Many people think of God’s favor as something they have to earn. If they pray enough, behave well enough, serve enough, or avoid enough mistakes, then maybe God will be pleased enough to bless them. But favor is not a reward for perfect performance. Favor is part of your position in Christ.

That truth matters because striving wears people out. It keeps you constantly measuring yourself, wondering if you have done enough to stay in God’s good graces. But Jesus did not come to create a system where you move in and out of God’s favor depending on the strength of your week. He came to bring you near.

God’s favor rests on your life because you are in Christ. You are accepted in the Beloved. You are not standing outside, hoping to qualify. You are already brought in, already loved, and already covered by what Jesus finished for you.

That does not make obedience unimportant. It simply puts obedience in the right place. We do not obey to earn favor. We obey because we are loved, accepted, and empowered by grace.

You do not wake up trying to get God’s favor. You wake up in it. The more that truth settles in your heart, the more striving begins to fall away.

Application

Remind yourself today: “I do not have to earn what Jesus already provided.”

Prayer

Father, help me stop striving for Your favor and rest in what Jesus has already made available to me.
