Governed by the Spirit
Reflection
What has been governing your thoughts lately?
Today's Scripture
Romans 8:6
"The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace."
Devotional
Your thoughts are not neutral. They either move you toward fear or toward faith. They either rehearse what the flesh sees or agree with what the Spirit says. That’s why Romans 8 is so direct. A mind governed by the flesh produces death, but a mind governed by the Spirit produces life and peace.
A flesh-governed mind is not necessarily a sinful or rebellious mind. Sometimes it is simply a mind that keeps staring at the problem. It stays focused on symptoms, lack, pressure, reports, delay, and worst-case scenarios. It allows what is visible to become louder than what God has spoken.
A Spirit-governed mind sees the same storm, but it chooses a different focus. It does not deny what is happening. It simply refuses to let the natural situation become the final authority. It asks, “Father, what do You say? Holy Spirit, what promise do I stand on? What does the Word say about this?”
Peace is not the absence of problems. Peace is the fruit of a mind submitted to the Spirit. You may still have real situations to face, but you don’t have to let those situations govern your inner life.
God has not called you to live tossed around by every fear that rises. He has given you His Spirit, His Word, and the ability to set your mind on truth.
Application
Before reacting today, pause and ask the Holy Spirit to help you set your mind on God’s Word.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, govern my thoughts today and lead me into life, peace, and truth.
