Don't Dig Up the Seed

October 23, 2026•2 min read

Reflection

Are you giving God's Word time to grow, or checking too quickly for visible results?

Key Scripture

Luke 8:15 (NIV)
But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.

Devotional

A seed doesn't become a harvest overnight. No one plants on Monday, digs it up on Tuesday, and calls it unsuccessful because nothing has appeared. Growth takes place beneath the surface before fruit becomes visible. Jesus uses that picture to show us how God's Word produces in a receptive heart.

The good soil hears the Word, retains it, and produces a crop by persevering. Hearing is where the seed enters the soil. Retaining means holding on when circumstances, emotions, and fear try to compete with what God said. Persevering means allowing time for the seed to grow without repeatedly uprooting it through doubt and discouragement.

You may have received a promise and expected an immediate result. When the answer didn't appear quickly, you wondered whether the Word was working. But God's Word is incorruptible seed. It carries life and doesn't expire, decay, or lose its power. Your role isn't to manufacture the harvest. It's to keep the seed planted, continue giving it attention, and refuse to let go.

Return to what God said. Speak it, meditate on it, and let it remain in your heart. Progress isn't always visible while roots are forming, but hidden growth still matters. Give the Word time to shape how you think, see, and respond. Don't dig up the seed simply because the harvest hasn't broken through the surface yet. Keep hearing, retaining, and persevering.

Application

Choose one promise you've been tempted to abandon. Read it again today, write it somewhere visible, and commit to holding it in your heart this week.

Prayer

Father, help me retain Your Word and persevere when I can't see the harvest yet. Strengthen me to hold on to what You've said and trust the life within Your incorruptible seed. In Jesus' name, amen.
