Come Home to the Word
Reflection
When life unsettles you, where does your heart return and settle down?
Key Scripture
John 8:31–32 (NKJV)
If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Devotional
We often quote Jesus saying that the truth will make us free, but His statement begins with an invitation: abide in My Word. To abide means to remain, dwell, and make a home. Jesus isn't describing a quick visit to Scripture when trouble appears. He's inviting us to live there.
Every day takes us into places where we'll encounter reports, pressures, disappointments, and questions. We may leave home for work, errands, or responsibilities, but eventually we return to the place where we live. Spiritually, God's Word is meant to become that place of return. The doctor's report isn't where you live. The bank statement isn't where you live. The unresolved circumstance isn't your home.
Making the Word your home is more than collecting biblical information. The Pharisees knew Scripture, yet they didn't recognize the One it revealed. Jesus wants us to encounter Him there. As the Holy Spirit brings the Word alive, truth moves from our head into our heart. We begin to see possibilities, peace, and freedom that were available all along.
The problem may still be present when you open your Bible. But as light enters, you begin to see it differently. What overwhelmed you yesterday no longer has to govern your peace today. Return to the Word until your heart settles into what Jesus says. Let His truth become the familiar place where you rest, believe, and live.
Application
Notice where your mind goes when worry begins today. Deliberately return to one promise from Scripture and remain with it until your thoughts begin to settle.
Prayer
Jesus, teach me to abide in Your Word. Let Your truth become my home, and allow the Holy Spirit to bring light, understanding, and freedom into every circumstance. Amen.
