Reflection

What usually reaches your attention before God's Word does?

Key Scripture

Proverbs 4:20–22 (NKJV)
My son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.

Devotional

Some mornings, the world is already talking before our feet touch the floor. Messages are waiting. Emails need answers. Responsibilities are calling, and the news and social media are ready to fill every quiet space. Before we've heard one thing from God, we may have already heard a hundred things from everything around us.

Proverbs tells us to give attention to God's words and incline our ears to His sayings. God isn't asking us to listen simply so we can check off a spiritual responsibility. His Word carries something we need. It gives life, faith, hope, courage, wisdom, and strength. He directs our attention toward the very truth that can change what has kept us worried, insecure, or bound.

Attention rarely happens by accident. Something will always compete for it, which means hearing the Word requires intention. Maybe the phone needs to remain on the nightstand while you open your Bible. Maybe Scripture needs to play during your morning routine before another voice gets the first word. The practice doesn't have to be complicated, but it does need a place in your day.

Consider what you're allowing to settle into your heart. The loudest voice isn't necessarily the truest one. God's Word is living and powerful, and it can speak life into the places where fear and pressure have been speaking. Before the noise begins today, give Him your attention. Let His truth become the foundation for everything else you hear.

Application

Choose one way to give God's Word your first attention tomorrow. Place your Bible where you'll see it, or prepare an audio passage tonight before setting down your phone.

Prayer

Father, help me give Your Word the attention it deserves. Quiet the distractions around me and awaken a fresh love for Your truth. Let Your voice shape my heart today. In Jesus' name, amen.
